Ewa Village Golf Course
Opening in 1996, Ewa Village Golf Course is perhaps the largest 18-hole course in the family of Honolulu’s municipal golf courses. With fewer water hazards than the nearby Wech Loch course, Ewa Village’s distinction lies in long drives of almost 6,500 yards from the longest tees on the course. With a par of 73, this can be a challenging order given the trade winds, but if the wind is at your back you are sure to feel the satisfaction of some great long-distance shots. Accuracy is key as this links style course is fairly narrow and errant balls will end up in nearby residences, lakes or streams, or out-of-bounds and deep in the rough. There have not yet been any hiking trails established in the rough, but remember to bring mosquito repellant.
Located 32 miles from downtown Honolulu, and 50 miles from Waikiki, Ewa Villages is a long stretch and a longer drive, but intermediate and expert players will find the trip rewarding. The municipal golf courses in Ewa Village offers an unrushed game with a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
Visitors without golf IDs (obtainable only by residents of Hawaii) can expect to pay $23 for a twilight/9-hole round, and $46 for an 18-hole round. Prices are the same regardless of weekday, weekend or holiday visits. Non-residents may call up to three days in advance for reservations, from 6:30am until closing. The course is open seven days a week, from 6am to 6pm. Although Ewa Villages doesn’t have a pro shop, the restaurant and snack bar are open from 6am to 7pm daily to accommodate that desire for a quick bite after a late round.
The municipal golf courses use an automated reservation system, and can be used by dialing 808.296.2000. Contact the Starter’s Office for Ewa Village at 808.681.0220.
