Honolulu Zoo
Close in proximity to Waikiki Beach and the famous Diamond Head Crater, the Honolulu Zoo offers to add a bit of jungle safari to your tropical vacation. An impressive collection of birds from around the world is matched only by the beauty and majesty of many animals from the African savannah. With its roots stretching as far back as 1876, what began as a three hundred-acre park has since expanded to a modern zoological wonder on fourteen acres with enclosures mimicking natural animal habitats, much like the world-famous San Diego Zoo.

In addition to regular admission and touring the park, there are a number of additional programs should you desire to spend more time and get a more intimate look at many of the animals. Evening and night visits are available, where you can see some of the animals enjoying their dinner after regular park closing hours, followed by the late rising nocturnal animals.

The Honolulu Zoo is open seven days a week, from 9am-4:30pm, and is closed only for Christmas Day. General admission for adults (aged 13 and older) is $12, while children ages 4-12 is $3. Children and newborns under age three receive free admission. Kama’aina discounts for residents with local Hawaii identification lowers admission entrance fee to $6.

Extra Tips
Looking to save a bit of money and still enjoying all that the zoo has to offer? Unlike many similar attractions, the Honolulu Zoo allows you to bring coolers and outside food on to zoo grounds. Enjoy a homemade picnic or some food from one of many nearby vendors in the ample shade of the park. Take special care to dispose of any and all trash to avoid sharing food and packaging with the animals!
