Horseback Riding on Lanai
Equestrians and amateur enthusiasts will have no trouble finding something to love on the rugged island of Lanai. Although Lanai features several luxury resorts, the island maintains a sense of a more natural state than the overdeveloped Maui and Oahu.

The Lodge at Koele
Offering many trail options (western tack only) for both experienced and novice horseback riders, the Lodge at Koele is the premier destination for horseback riding in Lanai. Ideal for beginners, the Koele Trail ride lasts a little over an hour in duration, and navigates a trail around the lodge, culminating in a sweeping view of the islands that includes the lodge itself, Lanai City, but also the islands of Maui and Molokai. This trail is $65 per rider. The Paniolo Trail ride is a slightly longer and more intermediate-level excursion into the hills surrounding the lodge. This trail is $85 per person. The longest trail is the Mahana Trail, which runs $150 per person. New to horseback riding? Riding lessons can also be purchased at $60 per person with a limit of two people per lesson. Trail rides at sunset, romantic couple rides and private trail rides are also available.

Children must be at least nine years old and at least 4’6” in order to take the beginner-level Koele Trail Ride. A minimum age of 12 is set for all other trails. Maximum weight for all potential riders is 225 lbs, and all riders must be able to mount and dismount horses without assistance.
