Kayaking in Kauai
Kayaks are aerodynamic boats that ride low in the water, providing riders with a sense of immediate intimacy and proximity with the water as well as a sense of power and speed. Kauai is home to the Wailua River, the only navigable river in the Hawaiian Islands. Kayaking up the river will grant you access to the remote but beautiful natural amphitheatre called Fern Grotto. In addition to river kayaking are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a kayak ride on the shoreline of many of Kauai’s beautiful beaches.

Exercise caution, as ocean swells and winds will make navigation difficult. Choppy waves reduce speed and require you to expend energy overcoming them rather than moving forward in your desired direction. Exploring calm areas is your best bet, and be aware of surf and weather conditions. If you are renting a kayak and not joining a tour package, you can take your kayak to many beaches around Kauai an enjoyable and memorable water sport experience.
