Honolulu Hale
Located in downtown Honolulu, the Honolulu Hale is the city hall. Hale is Hawaiian for “house”, literally describing the building as the house of Honolulu, and metaphorically the seat of power for the city. Just a short walk from Iolani Palace, this California Spanish-style building began construction in 1927 and was open for business in 1929. This is a beautiful historical building and worth a visit for anyone who enjoys architecture and city government.
Christmas is a very special season at the Honolulu Hale, and the building and grounds are adorned with festive decorations including merry-looking oversized cartoon characters, making it a great place to visit for families with young children looking to take photos of their tropical Hawaiian Christmas vacation. Accessible by bus or a quick taxi ride, the Honolulu Hale is also quite close to Honolulu’s Chinatown.
