Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii
Charged with the mission of exploring and sharing the culture of Japanese Americans in Hawaii by celebrating its history, the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii features a small museum gallery with rotating exhibitions, a Kenshikan martial arts dojo, the Seikoan Japanese tea house, and a community and resource center for the nonprofit organization. The JCCH offers a wide variety of programs throughout the year of great interest to both residents of Hawaii as well as tourists.

If you’re looking to learn more about many of the unique Japanese arts, seek out more information on classes or instruction offered at the Cultural Center. In the Kenshikan martial arts dojo, classes are offered in the instruction of kendo sword fighting, aikido, karate, naginata, as well as traditional Japanese dances. The facilities are complete with changing rooms, lockers and shower facilities. A more relaxed experience might be achieved in the Seikoan (“shinking star” in Japanese) Tea House and garden. Tea ceremonies are practiced frequently and classes are offered to the public. Longer three month-long term classes are also available for instruction in Tokakai calligraphy.

Admission to the cultural center is $7 for adults ages 18 and above, $5 for children ages 6-17. An active duty discount for members of the US military reduces admission to $3. Every second Saturday of the month admission is free and open to the public.

For a calendar of upcoming events, as well as any additional information you possible desire, call 808.945.7633 or visit the organization’s website at http://www.jcch.com.
