Kapiolani Park
Right next to world famous Waikiki Beach, Kapiolani Park is a central hub for Honolulu and features many of its most exciting attractions. Home to famous concert venue the Waikiki Shell, the Honolulu Zoo, the Aquarium, as well as the Natatorium (World War I Memorial and swimming training facility, currently not open to the public). Kapiolani Park also holds the distinction of being both the largest and oldest public park in Hawaii. More than 300 acres of land was set aside by the decree of King Kalakaua in 1877. Almost at the foot of the majestic dormant volcano Diamond Head, the park has been maintained as a public space for the enjoyment of all visitors since 1913.

Kapiolani Park draws visitors for its beautiful expanse of greeny and grassy lawns as well as its sports facilities open to the public. The park has an archery range, basketball courts, soccer fields, tennis courts, and is home to the Honolulu Cricket Club, the only one of its kind in the Hawaiian Islands and the oldest sporting club in the Pacific. Runners interested in a casual job will find themselves in close quarters with serious competitors training for the Honolulu Marathon, which finishes at the west end of park. The two-mile path is an excellent short course for a refreshing bit of exercise. Visitors looking for a more sedate experience may enjoy having a picnic on the lawn, or taking a look at the Sunday Arts Show or one of the many events showcasing at the park throughout the year.

Extra Tips
With all there is to see and do here, parking is often at a premium. It is often recommended to use public transport, as parking for the park doubles as parking for Kuhio Beach as well as many other attractions in the area.
