Kilauea Point Wildlife Refuge
The Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge is a beautiful natural landscape, a perfect place to appreciate the natural beauty of Kauai. This is a great place to observe native Hawaiian wildlife, particularly several sea birds that are not commonly seen on the crowded beaches on other parts of the island.
Birds to look for at the wilflife refuge include Laysan’s albatross, frigate birds, the Hawaiian nene goose, and red-footed boobies. Binoculars are helpful to locate and identify the nesting birds without disturbing them, be sure to bring them along. The refuge/animal sanctuary is open to visitors daily from 10am-4pm and closed on federal holidays. Self-guided tours are available by locating informational plaques that are located around Kilauea Point. Admission to the Refuge is $3 and free for children. Call 808.828.1413 with additional inquiries.
Kilauea Point Wildlife Refuge is also very close to the historic landmark Kilauea Lighthouse, constructed in 1913 to guide ships sailing the South Pacific.
