Senator Fong’s Plantation & Gardens
The plantation and gardens are a family-owned tropical paradise covering over 700 acres of beautiful landscapes and stunning vistas. This huge expanse is larger than the entirety of Waikiki, and extends from 80 feet above sea level to 2,600 feet in the Ko’olau Mountains. The diversity prevalent throughout this garden is astounding, including over 70 varieties of edible nuts and fruits, and more than 80 varieties of palms including Lo’ulu, the only native Hawaiian palm.
The Plantation and Gardens are named for U.S. Senator Hiram Fong (1906-2004) who served in the Senate from 1959 to 1977. The first Asian American to join the Senate, Fong is also notable for being the only Republican to represent Hawaii in the U.S. Senate. Senator Fong purchased the land in 1950 and opened it to the public in 1988.
The gardens are open from 10am-2pm daily, and are closed Christmas and New Year’s Day. Guided tours are conducted at 10:30am and 1pm daily, and the charge is $14.50 for adults and $9 for children. L
