USS Missouri Battleship Memorial
Another amazing memorial at the Pearl Harbor Naval Station, the USS Missouri is an Iowa-class warship built by the United States of America in 1940 and served heroically throughout World War II in many battles throughout the Pacific Theatre, including the battles for Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and finally as the site the Japanese Empire’s surrender which ended World War II. The USS Missouri would continue to serve with distinction in the Korean War and later in Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf in 1991. In 1998 “The Mighty Mo” joined the museum ships at Pearl Harbor.

The size and power of the USS Missouri cannot be overstated. A testament to naval engineering, the ship was built in three years and is not only larger than the USS Arizona whose sunken memorial also resides in Pearl Harbor, but also both longer and wider than the RMS Titanic. The last US battleship to be launched and the last to be decommissioned, the Mighty Mo was a formidable ship even amongst is peers, with thicker steel armor plating and massive firepower capabilities.

The USS Missouri Battleship Memorial is open daily from 8am-5pm. It is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Tickets and shuttle transportation for the USS Missouri are available at the US Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park. “Mighty Mo” tickets are $20 for adults, and $10 for children, and include one of several tour options. A new “Battle Stations” tour is now available, lasting 90 minutes and costs an additional $25 for adults and $12 for children, ages 10-12. This new tour offers new insight and details of life at sea for officers and sailors serving aboard the USS Missouri. Tour capacity is limited and should you be interested, be sure to make reservations before you visit.

Extra Tips
For safety precautions there is a “no bags” policy for all Pearl Harbor memorials. Lockers are available nearby to store personal items. This is a popular tour, and it is a good idea to get there before the memorial opens.
